ISSUE 4: GLOBAL MINDSET

how to build a global mindset across the organisation

OUR EXPERIENCE
Specific challenges include:
- Recognising core competencies needed to operate across cultures
- Connecting international competencies to organisational values
- Enabling individuals to use international competencies

ONE CLIENT'S CHALLENGE
We are a telecommunications company in the early stages of internationalisation. Over 18 months we need to build international sensitivity at a high- potential, middle and senior management levels. We have a limited number of pioneers with experience of international activity but we need to ensure their skills are spread across 1200 people who will also have international interfaces. How can we do this?

THE TCO RESPONSE
We supported the company's International Training Department in setting up a 3-day Intercultural Management workshop. This featured contributions from the experienced 'international pioneers' in the company, an international advertising company and an expert in global telecoms scenarios. Over the 10 editions of the programme, we carried out structured interviews with the 'pioneers' to capture their accumulated learning on video. These interviews were then interwoven with a dramatised film of an Italian manager working on an international project, illustrating differences between Italy and six other national cultures. The video was used in workshops at the middle and young high potential level with 1200 copies being distributed throughout the company
